River Basket Co maintains written route profiles for paddling corridors throughout Canada. Each profile documents access points, gradient characteristics, portage locations with distance and trail condition notes, seasonal flow windows, and hazard references drawn from Water Survey of Canada gauge data and first-hand trip accounts.

The focus is on practical information that helps paddlers make informed decisions before committing to a route — not on promoting any particular outfitter, gear brand, or commercial operation.

How the content is produced

Route descriptions are compiled from a combination of field notes, published trip reports, hydrometric records from Environment and Climate Change Canada, and direct correspondence with canoeists who have completed specific sections recently enough for the information to remain relevant.

Water level references cite the nearest active gauge station by number and name. Portage trail ratings reflect conditions as reported in the most recent verified account on file, with the date noted so readers can calibrate for seasonal change.

Accuracy and updates

Rivers change. Logjams appear, portage trails get rerouted, gauge stations are decommissioned, and access roads are closed. Each route profile carries a last-reviewed date. When conditions are flagged as changed by paddlers who contact the site, the profile is updated and the date is refreshed.

Geographic coverage

Current profiles concentrate on Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, and British Columbia — the provinces with the highest concentration of documented canoe routes and active gauge monitoring. Routes in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Atlantic Canada are added as verified information becomes available.
